Subject: July 23 in Zim

Hello all from beautiful Zim! We serve a big and gracious God. Today we finished teaching our Smart Choices program at Sizinda secondary school outside in the rural area of Victoria falls.
We had about 96 students and about 40 reported accepting Jesus for the first time. Amazing. I cannot begin to say thank you to all of you who have been praying consistently for me and the rest of our team.
These students can use your further prayers. Some of these students walk over 7 km to get to school and because it is so far, they have to leave home when it is still dark which puts them in danger of coming across an elephant, a lion, and for the girls, they often cross paths with men who will take advantage of them. What a scary endeavor simply to get to school! My heart breaks for these girls who are repeatedly abused and viewed as "less than". My prayer is for the girls who heard the teachings today, can grasp the concept that God created them as special and unique and that they have value.
Pray also for pastor Cyprian Shumba that another person would share the vision of the Smart Choices program and begin to teach this program with him. Cyprian appears to have a passion for the rural areas which desperately need the light and hope of Jesus and learn how to make smart choices to avoid exposure to HIV.
Praise to our gracious and merciful God. Choose to be thankful today for all He has given us.
Godspeed,
Melissa
